Few things beat Southern cooking and baking. Southern recipes are just so comforting and full of flavor that no other dishes every really come close. If you're looking for delicious cake recipes that will surely make your mouth water, you definitely need to buy yourself a copy of Cake Ladies: Celebrating a Southern Tradition.

This cake cookbook has more than twenty different recipes for cake, including a Lemon Cheese Layer Cake and a wonderfully chocolatey Mississippi Mud Cake. One really great thing about the recipes in this book is that each outlines not only the baking time, but the prep time, cooling time, and decorating time so that you can plan ahead when you want to bake one of the cakes.

My personal favorite part of the book is all of the photos. I love that each recipe has quite a few large, high quality color photos that show you every possible angle of the sweet and soft treats. Often times, cookbooks will have just one small picture of the finished product that really doesn't do the dessert justice. Cake Ladies, on the other hand, has so many vibrant photos that you'll find yourself entranced by them.

Not does the book have a wide variety of cakes, but it also features background stories and anecdotes from the ladies who created the recipes (hence the book's title Cake Ladies). Some of their stories are beautifully touching and others are endlessly humorous. These profiles are a wonderful addition to the recipes in the book. In addition, this cookbook highlights how important homemade cakes are to special events and just daily life in the South.

So, if you're looking for a dessert cookbook that has a wide variety of delicious recipes and a lot of heart, you should definitely pick up a copy of Cake Ladies: Celebrating a Southern Tradition.
