Sometimes, flipping through cookbooks can be a pain. Some show the foods in black and white while others don't even have a photo for every recipe in the book. I mean, photos are what make or break a recipe for me! However, that's why I love Sprinkles! Recipes and Ideas for Rainbowlicious Desserts by Jackie Alpers. You'll never find a more colorful and fun cookbook than this one. From pies to party favors, cookies to cakes, every recipe in this book has a photo that is bursting with vibrant colors. It's honestly impossible to just browse this cookbook without wanting to make quite a few of the sweet treats.

Sprinkles! is, first and foremost (like its title suggests), all about colorful, sprinkle-covered desserts. The first section of the book is devoted to the sprinkle. It goes through all of the different kinds and varieties of sprinkles (including different nicknames for some) and different ways or techniques to decorate with them. This may actually be my favorite part of the cookbook just because it's so fascinating. I never really realized how many kinds of sprinkles exist and it was great to learn about all of them.

The rest of the cookbook is separated into three sections: "Breakfast Sweets;" "Cookies, Cakes, And Pies;" and "Snacks And Party Fare." Each of these chapters is packed with tasty sweets that all feature sprinkles prominently, including the Rainbow Layer Cake that's featured on the cover. Every one of these recipes makes my mouth water. I can't wait to bake my way through this cookbook.

Partially hidden at the back of the cookbook are a few recipes for homemade sprinkles, including jimmies and fondant pearls. While I would think that this "How To" section would've been better served more towards the front of the cookbook before the main recipe chapters, I think it's a really useful source to have on hand, especially if you don't have access to certain types of sprinkles that a recipe may call for. Alpers breaks down these sprinkles recipes into manageable parts so that anyone can easily make their own sprinkles at home.

All dessert and sprinkles enthusiasts must find themselves a copy of Sprinkles! Recipes and Ideas for Rainbowlicious Desserts. The desserts in this fun cookbook are sure to bring the whole family together.
